The process of planning an all-encompassing video about your business and your goals is a massive undertaking.

Here is a recollection of a recent client process that won us 2 Telly Awards! Watch it here!

15 North Video recently produced, shot, and edited a business profile video about the company Precision Tube Laser. They are a world-class laser tube and flat metal cutting company located in Las Vegas, Nevada. They were already known for their oddly satisfying YouTube videos done by mounting a GoPro inside the machines. This accomplished a lot to get attention for the creativity and the boundaries that they were pushing with a machine that is built to do only one thing: Cut metal. They were purchasing a massive flat metal laser cutter and the accompanying automation equipment.
I was approached about producing some video content by the owner and CEO Jordan Yost. We coincidentally play on the same hockey team, The Pylons. And despite not winning a lot of games, we shared an interest in race cars. His company was expanding, and he needed a new video for the front page of his website.
I spent an extensive amount of time speaking to Jordan, his father Barry, and their director of operations, Justin. They were very clear in their small business approach to helping other small businesses. I kept hearing, “no job is too small“. I spent weeks going to the facility as it expanded and new machinery was installed. The highlight of this video was their new flat Metal laser cutter. This was substantial for them because it was putting them in a new market outside of tube cutting.

The entire video was shot on a RED Dragon-X. Knowing that there would be a lot of coverage inside of a machine shop, the lighting changes and positions would change. The RED can capture amazing imagery at remarkable aspect ratios. And it is fantastic at adhering to changes made in post production (for those quick moments that some camera settings are overlooked).
The interview was lit by gaffer Hunter from Fuego industries. He happened to be a high school friend of Jordan‘s. This made the video production feel very personal for everyone. We shot it in their (now old) headquarters in the southern area of Las Vegas. The highlight of the video is their new flat-laser cutter, which was my original plan to be the background of the interview. But machinery that works this good, doesn’t have to look good. So we decided to use the tube laser cutter as the background, as it provided more detail, depth, and texture.
When it came to the music, I decided to call an old composer friend, Matt Sedivy. Instead of going to a stock footage site like Pond5, I approached him and I asked him to edit a composed song he did a few years ago to accommodate for the timing of my video. He not only obliged, he made the music feel like it always belonged.
This was the first video I’ve ever submitted for an award, as I put my name in the hat for a Telly award. I ended up winning two for this video. Best branded video, and best cinematography for branded content. To have content that we’re proud of is always a bonus, but the goal will remain to have the client proud of what we create for them.
